Saint George aims to make learning relevant and meaningful to students by adopting an inquiry based, integrated curriculum that focuses on the individual as a learner. We recognize that children come to us with unique experiences, backgrounds, abilities and interests. Thus our teachers promote cross-cultural understanding and differentiate instruction to meet students’ varying needs, abilities and learning styles. We provide a balanced education within a safe, stimulating environment, paying particular attention to supporting the emotional, social, physical, and academic needs of each student enabling them to reach their greatest potential.

We offer an international curriculum with a strong British foundation which also integrates the Dominican Republic’s National Plan of Studies. The International Baccalaureate and IGCSE programs establish the main content of each subject area and the learning objectives to be achieved. Instruction at Infant School level is completely in English. The Spanish program is introduced in 1st grade, with Spanish Language Arts and Spanish Social Studies as main subjects. Math and Science are part of the English program together with Social Studies and Language Arts. Mandarin is introduced in 3rd grade and French in 5th grade; once students enter 9th grade they select which of these languages they will continue to study throughout Upper School in order to achieve mastery.

Additionally, our students in 9th and 10th grades undertake the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programs of study for Math and English. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is implemented in 11th and 12th grades. Click here for more information..

Our courses challenge and address students’ learning and thinking abilities, and are designed to support the development of good study habits. Students encounter and master content from diverse subject areas. A strong emphasis is placed on constructivism, as students experience learning, thinking, synthesizing and analyzing by becoming active participants in their own education. Teachers draw content from varied sources to keep students interested and engaged at all times.

Saint George believes a well-rounded student grows up to be a successful person, hence athletics and the arts are an integral part of the school experience, as well as field trips, clubs and extracurricular activities.

Average size of classes is 16-20 students, except at Infant School where the number of students per class is closely monitored to assure personalized attention for each child.

With Rubicon Atlas, a digital tool used to create, revise and improve curriculum maps, our curriculum is constantly reviewed, assuring vertical and horizontal alignment of skills and contents, as well as best teaching practices.
